Eglwys Pistyll Church |
|
Eglwys St. Beuno Arferai'r pererinion addoli yn eglwys Pistyll ar eu ffordd i Ynys Enlli. Byddent yn gorffwyso yn y fynachlog gerllaw, yn y dafarn neu yn yr ysbyty ar Fryn Cefnedd sydd heb fod ymhell. Yng nghae Eisteddfa, sef cae 20 erw wrth ymyl cae Hosbis, roedd nifer o gytiau lle cai pobl a gaztysai driniaeth feddygol gyfle i orffwys, Mae'n debyg y byddair gwahangleifion yn cael eu cadw ar wahan mewn adeilad llai ar Gae Hosbis Petinla.
Mae'n debyg mai'r bedyddfaen yw'r trysor hynaf ac mae'n dyddio o'r cyfnod Celtaidd. Ers 1969, addurnir yr eglwys â pherlysiau gwyllt meddyginiaethol adeg y Nadolig, y Pasg a Chalan Awst. |
Church of St. Beuno Pistyll church was used for worship by pilgrims on their way to Bardsey Island. Pilgrims used to rest at the adjacent monastery, at the inn, or at the hospice on nearby Cefnedd hill. The 20 acre Eisteddfa field
next to the larger Cae Hospice field would have held a larger number
of accommodation huts for those who needed to rest after receiving
medical aid. Lepers were probably confined in a smaller building
on Cae Hospice Pennla. The original church of wood, plaster and thatch could have had a circular boundary fence but the present churchyard wall is oval in shape. The font is probably the oldest treasure. It is of Celtic origin. Since 1969 this church has been decorated with wild medicinal herbs, strewn herbs and rushes laid on the floor at Christmas, Easter and the early August Lammas Festival. |
